Enhanced Th2 immune response in milk-allergic children against the major milk proteins as the starting point for an OIT protocol

چکیده
Background Milk allergy is the most common food allergy in infants and young children. Typical milk allergy symptoms involve hives, vomiting, or even anaphylaxis. For cow’s milk, strict avoidance is difficult because milk proteins are very ubiquitous. Oral immunotherapy (OIT) is an effective therapeutic option to induce milk oral tolerance. However, the immune mechanisms underlying this treatment have not been fully identified yet. The aim of this study was to compare the clinical and immune responses against several milk allergens of a pediatric population before an OIT protocol with a non-atopic population of the same age range.

Oral Food Desensitization in Children With IgE-Mediated Cow's Milk Allergy: Immunological Changes Underlying Desensitization
PURPOSE This study aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy to induce clinical desensitization to cow's milk (CM) of an oral immunotherapy (OIT) protocol in a pediatric population with cow's milk allergy (CMA). In addition, the immune responses against β-casein, of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from CMA patients, before and after the protocol were evaluated and compared to a nonal...

The induction of peripheral tolerance may constitute a disease-modifying treatment for allergic patients. We studied how oral immunotherapy (OIT) with milk proteins controlled allergy in sensitized mice (cholera toxin plus milk proteins) upon exposure to the allergen. Symptoms were alleviated, skin test was negativized, serum specific IgE and IgG1 were abrogated, a substantial reduction in the ...
متن کاملImproved Efficacy of Oral Immunotherapy Using Non-Digestible Oligosaccharides in a Murine Cow’s Milk Allergy Model: A Potential Role for Foxp3+ Regulatory T Cells
BACKGROUND Oral immunotherapy (OIT) is a promising therapeutic approach to treat food allergic patients. However, there are some concerns regarding its safety and long-term efficacy. The use of non-digestible oligosaccharides might improve OIT efficacy since they are known to directly modulate intestinal epithelial and immune cells in addition to acting as prebiotics. AIM To investigate wheth...

Background: Heat shock proteins (HSP) are highly conserved molecules with many immunological functions. They are highly immunogenic with important role in cancer immunotherapy and in vaccine development against infectious diseases. As adjuvant, HSP can augment the immunogenicity of weak antigens and can stimulate antigen presenting cells. Although vaccines have been successful for many infec...
متن کاملSide effects and their impact on the success of milk oral immunotherapy (OIT) in children
Oral immunotherapy (OIT) has been introduced as a new immune-modulating treatment under investigation for food allergies. The aim of our study was to evaluate the success of OIT in a cohort of children with milk allergy. These children underwent OIT in a clinical practice and were followed for up to ten years. The secondary endpoint was to describe the main adverse events during OIT and compare...
